Meet the Project

Traveling the lower 48 states in an RV for 3 years, I will capture some of the heart and soul of America by visiting cultural and sporting events, festivals, and scenic places. Oh, and take photos of the huge variety in cuisine!

Welcome to the Photos of America Project!

On this website, you will be given the opportunity to learn not only MUCH more about the culture and beauty of the state where you live, but the other lower 47 states as well.

Because this is an ongoing project, please check back for additional content. If you would like to be notified of additions, just add your email address below. Any text that is underlined will lead you to a page with content.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Marc Sobers, but I'm known professionally as " the Picture Man" (I was a school photographer for many years, and that's what everyone called me). I grew up in Berkeley, CA, have lived in a few other states, but I've called Louisiana my home for the last 26 years.

Having been fortunate to have already visited 46 of the lower 48 states, I realize that I still have much more to learn about our beautiful country. I will use my photographic skills, curiosity, and love of travel to bring you along on the journey.

The "and you to America" part of the project pertains to me recording people that I meet telling me a bit about themselves by answering an 11-question survey (two of my favorite are: What is your most embarrassing moment? and Do you have a funny, clean story/joke you can tell us?).

Besides the answers themselves, I'm really looking forward to hearing all the regional accents.

BTW, "lagniappe" is Cajun French for a little something extra.
